Marble Falls softball season ends after hard-fought Game 2 loss to Lockhart
FROM STAFF REPORTS
GEORGETOWN — The Marble Falls High School softball team’s season ended with a 9-7 loss to Lockhart in the area round of the playoffs May 3.
Since the Lady Lions had already won the first game 8-2 on May 2 in the best-of-three series, Lockhart advances to the regional quarterfinals.
The Lady Mustangs (22-13, 5-7 in District 25-4A) trailed throughout the contest, stranding two runners in the first inning. Meanwhile, the Lady Lions didn’t have such a hurdle, plating two runs by the second inning.
Senior third baseman Hailey Wooten picked up Marble Falls’ first RBI thanks to a single to trim the deficit 2-1.
But by the fourth inning, Lockhart added four more runs to increase the lead to 6-1.
Still, Wooten and senior centerfielder Catie Whitecotton wouldn’t let the Lady Mustangs falter.
The two connected on hits that brought home runners in the fifth inning to narrow the deficit to 6-4.
In the top of the seventh inning with the lead at 9-4, Marble Falls had the top of the lineup coming to bat. Seniors Abby Henry and Hayley Fishbeck and freshman Makenzie Carpenter each recorded RBIs.
Marble Falls finished the season as the fourth-place team in District 25-4A and captured a bi-district championship by beating Austin Crockett 2-1 in a best-of-three series April 26-27.
