Galveston police arrest two men in connection with missing Kingsland girls
FROM STAFF REPORTS
GALVESTON — Two Kingsland girls reported missing May 2 in an Amber Alert were found safe in a Galveston motel later the same day, according to officials.
Officials wouldn’t specify what led authorities to a motel in Galveston.
According to Galveston Police Department records, two men were arrested at the Mariner Inn, 1602 Seawall Blvd. in Galveston, sometime about 9 p.m. May 2. The men were each booked into the Galveston County Jail on harboring runaway child charges as well as on warrants out of Llano County.
One of the men was 33-year-old Keith Taylor Mize, according to police and jail records.
Llano County Sheriff’s Office investigator Lt. Glen Williams said Mize was a person of interest after the disappearance of two girls, 13-year-old Savannah Meshell Sloan and 15-year-old Misty Chyann Sloan, from a Kingsland residence. An Amber Alert issued by the Texas Department of Public Safety on May 2 identified Mize as a “suspect.”
Williams said Mize was “a family member” of the two girls but didn’t specify the relationship.
Police and Galveston County Jail records identified the second man arrested as 20-year-old Brandon David Chelette.
According to Galveston County Jail records, authorities are holding Mize in lieu of $7,000 in bonds and Chelette in lieu of $6,500 in bonds.
