Several Faith Academy tennis players win opening matches at TAPPS state tourney

WACO — All members of the Faith Academy girls and most of the boys tennis teams won their first-round matches at the Class 2A State Tournament of the Texas Association of Private and Parochial Schools.
The tournament began at Waco Midway High School on April 24.
The Lady Flames are seeking their fourth consecutive state title. Senior Sarah Mason Thomas is the two-time defending state singles champion, while seniors Nicole Johnson and Savannah Still are the defending doubles champions.
Faith is seeking its seventh straight state title under the direction of head coach Michelle Stallard.

Boys singles — Faith’s Reagan Vaughn def. Andrew Lajaunie (Galveston O’Connell) 6-0, 6-4 and def. Greg Barns (No. 3 seed of Denton Calvary) 6-1, 6-2; Faith’s Rich Coleman lost to Will Tankasky (No. 4 seed of Dallas The Covenant). Boys doubles — Faith’s Alec Gonzales and Luke Hering def. Austin Hain and Adrian Kimbrell (Dallas Fairhill) 6-0, 6-1.
Girls singles — Faith’s Sarah Mason Thomas def. Annie Bailey (Abilene Christian) 6-0, 6-0 and def. Angela Wilson (Pasadena First Baptist) 6-2, 6-2; Faith’s Brandi Kuhlman def. Marianna Herndon (Halletsville Sacred Heart) 6-2, 6-3 and def. Kathryn Sild (No. 2 seed of Sherman Texoma Christian) 6-3, 6-4. Girls doubles — Faith’s Savannah still and Nicole Johnson def. Crystal Johnson and Marina (Sherman Texoma Christian); Ariel Blaylock and Rebekah Graham def. Jenna Brown and Ariana Kubena (Hallettsville’s Sacred Heart) 6-3, 7-5 (7-2).
