Burnet County residents can bring hazardous-waste items to collection April 20 in Marble Falls

MARBLE FALLS — A collection of hazardous waste items is April 20 at the Charley Taylor Rodeo Arena.
Burnet County residents may bring their trash to the BOPATE collection 9 a.m.-1 p.m. at the arena, 3053 U.S. 281 south. BOPATE stands for batteries, oil, paint, antifreeze, tires and electronics.
Accepted items include:
• automobile tires up to 24-inch rim size
• lead-acid batteries
• cell phones and telephones
• computer components and parts
• televisions (no wooden consoles)
• used motor oil and filters
• latex paint (no oil-based)
Items that will not be accepted include:
• tires with rims
• chemicals of any kind
• dioxins
• containers larger than five gallons
• explosives
• medical and pharmaceutical items
• compressed-gas cylinders (aerosols and camp-stove propane)
• fluorescent lamp bulbs
• industrial or commercial/business waste
• household products labeled “caution,” “warning” or “poison”
• oil-based paints, stains and varnishes
Safety guidelines include:
• bring products in original and labeled containers;
• do not mix or consolidate products;
• properly seal containers to prevent leaking;
• and haul containers and materials in the trunk or back of the vehicle and away from passengers.
