CEDAR PARK — The Marble Falls High School softball team defeated Cedar Park Vista Ridge 8-3 on April 12 to assure themselves at least a chance for the district’s final playoff spot.

“If we happen to lose both games this week, then we’d have a play-in game with Leander Rouse for the final playoff spot.” head coach Tino Salazar said.

Marble Falls won’t have to wait long to face Rouse. The Lady Mustangs welcome the Lady Raiders at 7 p.m. on April 16.

Of course, the Lady Mustangs want to win this week and avoid facing Rouse a third time at what would probably be a neutral site.

Against Vista Ridge on April 12, Marble Falls seized control early.

The Lady Mustangs scored twice in the first inning for a 2-1 lead then added a run in the third and fourth innings and two more in the fifth and in the sixth innings. In all Marble Falls had 9 hits.

“Confidence-wise, we hit the ball well,” Salazar said. “It kept everyone up.”

Especially freshman pitcher Makenzie Carpenter, he said. Once her teammates started scoring runs, Carpenter fed off their energy from the circle. Junior Amanda Thomas took over pitching the sixth inning.

Marble Falls ends the regular season at home this week. The Lady Mustangs welcome Dripping Springs, the District 25-4A champions, at 7 p.m. April 19.

“I feel like everything is starting to fall into place,” the coach said. “I think there’s comfort when you play at home.”
