CIBOLO — The Faith Academy of Marble Falls girls golf team took the final qualifying spot for the regional tournament with a fourth-place finish at the district tournament April 8.

Eleven teams competed in at district.

“It was a bit of a surprise,” Faith coach Rick Blackington said. “That was a goal for us.”

The Lady Flames were led by sophomore Taylor Denton, who shot an 87 and finished fifth in the individual standings. Other golfers include Erika Sople, Shelby Fairleigh, Rachel Love and Calley Cozby.

The district tournament was conducted at Northcliffe Golf Club.

“To move further (in the playoffs), it’s going to have to be a considerably better performance,” Blackington said. “Taylor has a really good chance to go to state. We’ll have somebody moving on.”

The regional tournament is April 15 at The Bandit Golf Club, 6019 FM 725 in New Braunfels.
