City of Burnet accidentally sends out bank-account information with utility bills

FROM STAFF REPORTS

BURNET — The names and bank-account numbers of utility customers who have bank drafts on their accounts were inadvertently sent out with bills earlier this week.

According to a news release from Crista Bromley, the names and account numbers were printed on a five-page list not meant to be sent with the bills. Five city of Burnet utility customers were accidentally sent one page each from the list. Bromley asks those who received portions of the list to return them to the city as soon as possible.

According to the release, the city has contacted all affected banks and is getting in touch with each of the nearly 250 individual customers to notify them of the error.

Bromley said customers who have bank drafts with the city are encouraged to notify their banks and monitor their accounts.

Bromley said the city wanted its customers to be aware of the mistake. Customers can call the city utility office during business hours at (512) 756-6093 and select option 3. Outside of business hours, customers can call assistant city manager Joyce Laudenschlager at (830) 798-3973.
