Burnet girls golf finish third at district in first year of competing

BROWNWOOD — In the first year for the Burnet High School girls golf team, the Lady Dawgs finished third out of six teams at the District 8-3A tournament.
The Lady Dawgs shot a 383-394-777 during the two-round event April 5 and 8.
“These kids have given us a great new start to girls golf here in Burnet,” coach Stuart Beckwith said.
His daughter, sophomore Lauren Beckwith, was the second medalist at the District 8-3A tournament and qualified for the regional tournament for the second consecutive year. Last year, she played for Lampasas High School and transferred to Burnet when her dad accepted the job of Burnet Middle School girls athletic coordinator.
Some golfers for the boys and girls teams shot new personal bests for a single round, including Jodi Hill with a 92, Taylor Carroll with a 99, Hunter Holmes with a 100 and Micaela Smith with a 106.
The boys split into two teams with Burnet 1 shooting a 363-340-703 and Burnet II finishing with a 406-376–782.
