FROM STAFF REPORTS

MARBLE FALLS — Marble Falls High School boys soccer coach Michael Nave summed up his team’s 4-0 loss to Cedar Park 4-0 on March 1 in one sentence.

“It’s the old ‘one loss beats you twice’,” he said. “We gave everything we had on (Feb. 26).”

That game was a 2-1 loss to Leander Vandegrift with the Vipers scoring the winning goal with 2 minutes 50 seconds left in the contest.

On March 1, the Timberwolves led 1-0 at the half.

Nave said the Mustangs outplayed the Timberwolves throughout the game, but once Cedar Park scored a couple of goals, Marble Falls had a hard time recovering from the deficit mentally.

“I think we were in a fragile emotional state,” he said. “Normally, that wouldn’t hurt us.”

Cedar Park only took a total of seven shots but made them count, Nave said.

During the team huddle after the game, the coach reminded his players of about the first half of district play.

“We started the first half of district 0-2,” Nave said. “At the end, we were in first place. The opportunities are still there.”
