MARBLE FALLS — Burnet County Friends of NRA will give away an AR-15 and a Colt 45 Commander as part of a fundraiser drawing for the nonprofit organization, which promotes youth shooting sports as well as firearms education, training and proficiency. The group will announce the winners of the drawing at noon March 2 at Rods, Barrels and Strings, 1008 U.S. 281. Tickets are $50 each (200 tickets total) for a chance for two winners to receive the firearms.
“All the monies that we raise in our events, half of that comes back to the South Texas region in the form of grants,” board chairman Mark McDonald said.
Coordinators said the drawing coincides with the launch of ticket sales and sponsorship opportunities for the second annual Burnet County Friends of NRA banquet April 18.
The NRA Foundation recently awarded the Burnet County Sheriff’s Office and the Burnet County constables more than $6,000 in grants for ammunition and body armor.
“We’re able to practice more times and become more proficient,” Burnet County Sheriff W.T. Smith said. “This year, we were able to do a night shoot (for training) as well as the day shoot.”
Other programs supported by local members are training sessions for women and teachers, youth 4-H proficiency courses and wildlife conservation efforts.
Banquet auction items include limited edition merchandise, firearms, knives, art and jewelry, McDonald said.
The banquet starts at 5:30 p.m. at the Lakeside Pavilion, 307 Buena Vista Drive. A meal will be served followed by an auction scheduled to begin about 7 p.m.
Tickets are $30 per person or $400 for a table of eight.
