OBITUARY: Ross Morris, 89, of Kingsland was World War II veteran, athlete

Ross Green Morris, 89, of Kingsland died Feb. 13, 2013. He was born March 1, 1923, in Logan, Utah, to James C. Sr. and Maude Green Morris.

He retired to Kingsland in 1970 and lived there until his death.

He spent his childhood in Utah, graduating from high school in Brigham City in May 1942. He excelled in athletics including basketball, football and track and field.

He was a World War II veteran and was assigned to the Pacific. After graduating from Utah State University, he re-enlisted in the military, retiring from the U.S. Air Force in 1970.

He was married to June Owens Morris and Florence Torrez Clenden Morris.

He was preceded in death by a beloved brother, James C. Morris Jr., and his parents.

Mr. Morris was fit and athletic his entire life. He lifted weights, rode a bicycle an endless number of miles and threw the shot put and discus in the Senior Games.

He also enjoyed working in the yard, Western U.S. history, hobbies and numerous other interests.
