MARBLE FALLS — In the past seven years, the Faith Academy of Marble Falls girls basketball team has won 77 consecutive district games, seven district titles and now seven bi-district championships.
The Lady Flames made quick work of Tyler East Texas Christian in a 66-14 first-round playoff win Feb. 19 thanks to a stifling defense that only allowed the Lady Panthers four points in the first half.
By then, the Lady Flames had scored 50.
“I thought we played awfully good defense early,” Faith head coach Jerry English said. “(East Texas Christian) didn’t have a lot of offensive power.”
Most of the Lady Flames’ points came off fast breaks in which they made precise passes to open players. English said this team’s passing reminds him of the 1993-94 Dripping Springs High School girls basketball team that he coached to a state championship.
“(The Faith players) see the open man better and get it to the open man,” he said. “I’m very excited about the rest of the playoffs.”
ON OFFENSE: Points – Bailey Brinkley 19, Taylor Denton 12, Sierra Brinkley 9, Joanna Piatek 8, Kristen Cherry 6, Juliette Fisher 6, Hailey Shipley 3, Susanna Case 2, Rebekah Graham 1
RECORD: Faith is 34-2 overall.
UP NEXT: Faith vs. Abilene Christian High School at the Faith campus, 3151 RR 1431 in Marble Falls on Feb. 23 with time to be determined
