BURNET — Salye Coles was approved for hire as the high school volleyball coach by the Burnet Consolidated Independent School District board of trustees during a regular meeting Feb. 18.

Coles is currently the head coach at San Angelo Lake View and will replace Monica Meyers, who resigned before the end of the fall semester at Burnet. Coles also will be an English teacher.

“I think (Coles) is going to do a great job,” Burnet High School girls athletic coordinator Mike Cavender said. “She’s very energetic, very enthusiastic. She seems to be a very good motivator. I think she’ll work great with the kids.”

Coles will finish the school year at Lake View but will spend a couple of days a week at Burnet High School getting to know her players in the coming weeks, Cavender said.

Lake View plays in District 4-4A and was 8-30 overall and 0-10 in district this past season.

The board also approved the rehiring of Rachel Rose, who left the district two years ago, as a middle school history teacher and a coach.
