The Lady Mustangs beat Kerrville Tivy 16-1 in a game that ended in five innings and Odessa Permian 9-1.

“It was good,” Marble Falls head coach Tino Salazar said of the victories.

The Lady Mustangs faced each opponent’s top pitcher throughout the weekend. But most important, the players learned they had to be mentally ready to play, Salazar said, which might have played a factor in a 2-0 loss to Liberty Hill to begin the event.

The results of the tournament should serve the Lady Mustangs well, Salazar added.

“It gives them confidence,” he said. “I think it’s a confidence booster.”

The Marble Falls junior varsity team also played in the tournament and posted a 0-4 record. But Salazar said many opposing coaches complimented the younger squad.

“Every coach (the junior varsity team) played were very impressed,” he said. “They were fundamentally sound and played with a lot of heart.”
