Faith girls’ 22-game winning streak ends with loss to St. Stephen’s

MARBLE FALLS — The Faith Academy girls’ basketball team’s 22-game winning streak is over.

Austin St. Stephen’s defeated the Lady Flames 66-53 in a nondistrict game.

Faith’s last lead of the game was at 23-22 with under 5 minutes left in the first half. St. Stephen’s went on a 16-10 run that could have been 18, but officials waived off a bucket, saying it wasn’t shot before the horn sounded.

Faith head coach Jerry English said St. Stephen’s had some players who were taller in many different positions. But he said the Lady Flames didn’t make the most of their offensive opportunities.

“(St. Stephen’s has) the physical size that made it very difficult for us,” he said. “We needed to take advantage of some of the two-footers and stuff like that. … And, interestingly enough, we actually ran some really good stuff. They don’t give you points for running good stuff. You got to make two-foot shots.”

Faith recorded 27 percent shooting from the field, scoring 12-of-45, and shot 54 percent from the foul line, dropping in 27-of-50.
