Mary Ann Stagg Dorsey, a Christian and loving wife and mother, went to her eternal rest Jan. 14, 2013. Her life began in Houston on Feb. 28, 1928. She was one of three daughters and a son of Margaret Taylor Standefer. Her father was John Standefer.

She later moved to San Antonio. After her school days, she moved back to the Houston area, where she married Charles Scott Stagg.

Charles and Mary Ann had one child, Charles Scott Stagg Jr., and, in 1962, they moved to Huffman. Scott was welcomed to a family that included Charles’ three children. While in Huffman, Mary Ann loved to square dance and bowl. In 1982, Mary Ann retired from her employment at Dobb’s House, where she serviced American Airlines, and moved to Kingsland. In 1983, she became a widow and was supported by many of her friends. In 1994, Mary Ann wed Eddie Dorsey and became part of his family of loving children and grandchildren.

In Kingsland, she was a part of the craft community and continued her love of bowling in the Hill Country Women’s Bowling Association. Her battle with pancreatic cancer was short, and her passing included passionate care from many caring professionals.

She is survived by her husband of 18 years, Eddie Dorsey, of Kingsland; daughters Ellen Ann Shumate of Cypress and Susie Dorsey Stewart and husband Rick of Lubbock; sons, Charles Michael Stagg and wife Linda of Alvin, Charles Scott Stagg Jr. and wife Sharon of Echo, Utah, and Mike Dorsey and wife Dana of Austin; and son-in-law, Del Trolinder of Midland. She also is survived by nephew, Leonard Rogers and wife Vanessa of Sealy; niece, Rochelle Rogers Wilkes and husband Cory of Katy; granddaughters, Michele Shumate Clayton, Greta Hall, Sarah Stewart and Nicci Hunt; grandsons, Clay Stagg, Stacey Stagg, Shannon Dorsey, Shane Stewart and Paul Stewart; and numerous great-grandchildren.

Mary Ann was preceded in death by her mother, Margaret Taylor Standefer Teats; sisters, Dorothy Rogers and Jane; brother, Harvey Green; husband, Charles Stagg; daughter Diane Stagg Trolinder; and granddaughter Kim Smith Howard.

Visitation is 6-8 p.m. Jan. 17 at Waldrope-Hatfield-Hawthorne Funeral Home, 900 Industrial Blvd. in Kingsland, (325) 388-6767. A graveside service is 2 p.m. Jan. 18 at Lakeland Hills Memorial Park.

A contribution may be made to an animal shelter of your choice in Mary Ann’s memory to honor her love of all animals, both wild and domestic.
