BURNET — The Burnet High School boys basketball team crushed Austin St. Stephen’s Episcopal School 59-45 on Jan. 4 for the Bulldogs’ fourth consecutive win.

Burnet trailed 13-9 after the first quarter. The deficit went up to 12 points early in the second. But the Bulldogs exploded for 16 points in the second en route to a 25-20 halftime lead. Burnet never trailed again.

“The guys responded by playing good defense and having good offense and showed character,” Burnet head coach Roy Kiser said. “We had balanced scoring and contributions from a lot of people. We hit threes, that always helps us.”

Kiser proclaimed the Bulldogs healthy, which is important since District 8-3A play begins Jan. 11 with a home date against Liberty Hill at 8 p.m.

“We’re doing some good things before district starts,” he said.

ON OFFENSE: Points – Clayton Baumgart 22, Jordan Barnard 10, Cory Cavender 6, Derek Kiser 5, Colton Stevens 4, Caleb Cardozo 3

RECORDS: Burnet is 10-7 overall.
