Wenona (Moss) Burks was born in Frederick, Okla., on Oct. 13, 1927. She was one of two children born to Myrtle Naomi and Roy Lincoln Moss. She passed away Nov. 19, 2012, with her family at her side.

Wenona was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Wilford “Bill” Burks Jr.

Wenona attended North Texas State University and graduated with a music degree. Bill and Wenona relocated to Midland, Mich., where she taught music in the Midland Public Schools for 20 years.

She and her husband retired to the Hill Country in Horseshoe Bay, where she continued her love of music at The Church at Horseshoe Bay. She helped to establish the Bluebonnet Chorale and directed the church handbells.

She is survived by sons Roy Wilford and wife Marianne and Richard Boothe and wife Karin; grandchildren Marine Warrant Officer Select Matthew Wilford Burks and wife Britni, Katherine Burks Johnson and husband James, Ryan Shea Burks and Ashley Shea Burks; and great-grandson Cade Philip Burks Ortega.

The family would like to thank our church family for all their love and support. Memorial donations may be made in Wenona’s name to The Church at Horseshoe Bay.

Visitation is 6-7 p.m. Nov. 26 at Clements-Wilcox Funeral Home, 1805 U.S. 281 in Marble Falls, (830) 693-4373.  A graveside service is 11 a.m. Nov. 27 at Horseshoe Bay Mausoleum with Pete Christy officiating.
