Dr. Francis Glenn Vickers, 94, died Sept. 22, 2012. He was born on Oct. 8, 1917, in Roanoke, Ala., to George Glenn and Nonnie Elinda Vickers.

He received a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from Auburn University in August 1944. He worked for the Veterinary Service of the Department of Agriculture until his retirement on Feb. 28, 1980.

He was commissioned as a captain in the Army’s Veterinary Corps in 1950 and was honorably discharged in 1955. He was a Mason and member of Henry Thomas Lodge No. 278 in Smithwick and the Shriners and was active in the Marble Falls Senior Citizen Activity Center.

He made his home in Granite Shoals in the 1970s.

He married Eula Singleton on Nov. 12, 1988.

In addition to his wife, survivors include daughter Sue Vickers of Marble Falls; stepsons Kirby Singleton and wife Margaret of Richmond, Keith Singleton and wife Kathy of Sachse and Kurtis Singleton and wife Taira of Marble Falls; granddaughters Sherry Singleton, Amy Singleton Kliesing, Megan Singleton and Bailey Davis; grandsons Steven Singleton, Mathew Singleton and Harlen Thomas Singleton; four great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; cousins in Alabama and Florida; brothers-in-law Dr. Victor H. Driscoll and his family of Wharton and Pete Coburn and wife Marilyn of Alvin; sisters-in-law Eloise Lubojasky of Sugarland and Jeanne Coburn of San Marcos.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Lola Vickers; parents; and sister Evelyn Elinda Driscoll.

Visitation is 6-8 p.m. Sept. 25 at Clements-Wilcox Funeral Home, 1805 U.S. 281 North in Marble Falls, (830) 693-4373. A funeral service is 1 p.m. Sept. 26 at First Baptist Church in Granite Shoals with the Rev. Randy Taylor officiating. Interment will follow at Lakeland Hills Memorial Park.

Pallbearers include Mathew Singleton, Steven Singleton, Ernie Coburn, Brett Burkhart, Cris Hernandez and Jesse Kleising II.

The family thanks Tammy Arivette and Cindy Mabry for their dedicated care and for the special relationship with him that they developed and nurtured over time; and also First Baptist Church of Granite Shoals for the members’ love, support, visits and prayers.
