Fairys W. Sanders
Fairys Walker Sanders, 94, of Llano died Aug. 11, 2012, at the Christian Care Center in Mesquite. Born on June 19, 1918, to T.C. and Mildred Park Walker in Moran, she grew up in Dallas and graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School and North Texas Agricultural College (now the University of Texas at Arlington).
She graduated in 1940 from Abilene Christian College with a degree in business, a rarity for a woman at the time. At Abilene Christian, she met D.E. “Tony” Sanders, and she married him on Nov. 28, 1941. They were married for 65 years at the time of his death in 2007.
During their life together, the couple lived in Dallas, Amarillo, Abilene, Roby, Seminole and finally in Llano, where they retired in 1999. In the early years of their marriage, she dedicated herself to raising and educating their children.
After raising her children, she was active in volunteer work at Seminole Memorial Hospital.
Survivors include sister Virginia Walker of Dallas; children and spouses Mike Sanders and wife Carol of Lakeway, Sally Sanders Cowan and husband Robert of Llano, and Susan Sanders Vrana and husband Dennis of Dallas; grandsons Andrew Sanders and Cory Beal, both of Dallas, and Gregory Sanders of Fort Worth; granddaughters Bess Vrana and Alice Vrana of Dallas; and great-grandsons Sam Sanders of Fort Worth and Cade Beal-Knight of Dallas.
She was preceded in death by her parents and sister Gwendolyn Blount.
Visitation is 6-8 p.m. Aug. 15 at Waldrope-Hatfield-Hawthorne Funeral Home, 307 E. Sandstone in Llano, (325) 247-4300.
Interment and graveside services will be 9:30 a.m. Aug. 16 at the Gooch Cemetery in Mason.
Pallbearers will be her son, grandsons, and sons-in-law.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial donations be made to a library of choice in recognition of her love of reading and support of education.
