Lavon L. Von Krosigk-Haun, 93, of Llano died June 1, 2012, at Walden Court Assisted Living Center after a short battle with heart disease. She was born in Lewistown, Ill., on Jan. 24, 1919, to Earl and Bertha Smith.

In the 1970s, she obtained a bachelor’s degree in education and library science from Southwest Texas State University. In 1964, she co-authored a book on childhood development titled “First a Child” for mentally challenged children that became a foundation textbook for Central Washington State University and Eastern Washington University, pioneering efforts in early education of children with mental retardation.

Survivors include children Jeanne DesForges of North Hollywood, Calif., Sam Von Krosigk and wife Jo Ann of Tipp City, Ohio, William Von Krosigk of San Marcos, Chris Riggan of Austin and Jim Von Krosigk and wife Donna of Buchanan Dam; 11 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands Sam Von Krosigk and Jake Haun; and grandchild Shayla DesForges.

A memorial service is 11 a.m. June 9 at Holy Trinity Catholic Church with Father Melvin Dornak officiating.

The family wishes to thank Father Dornak who baptized her on Easter, Deacon George Lillard for helping inspire her to the faith and caregivers and, especially, Linda Theiss of Walden Court Assisted Living Center for all of the love and attention they gave her during the past two years.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Special Opportunities School, 206 E. Main, Llano, TX 78643.
