Earl Edward “Eddie” Farris, 62, died June 1, 2012. He was born in Burnet on Jan. 1, 1950, to Aubrey Alton Fariss and Doris Ann (O’Donnell) Fariss.

He graduated from Burnet High School in 1968 and received his Bachelor of Arts degree from Texas State University-San Marcos, known at the time as Southwest Texas State University.

He came to the Texas Department of Community Affairs, later named the Texas Department of Housing and Community Affairs, from Williamson-Burnet County Opportunities Inc., a community-action agency where he served as a program consultant in the administration of the Job Training Partnership Act.

As director of the Community Affairs Division, he was directly involved with issues dealing with poverty, homelessness and child and dependent care. He represented the department on several councils, such as the Texas Homeless Network and Texas Interagency Council for the Homeless, the latter where he served as vice chairman.

He was a tireless advocate for those less fortunate, and spent his entire career working to end homelessness.

He loved music, played drums and sang for many years for numerous rock, country and western, and swing bands.  He loved to cook and garden, and was fabulous at both.

He was a dedicated and loving husband and father.

Survivors include his wife, Julie Greenlees Fariss; son Michael Edward Fariss; mother Doris Fariss; and brothers Craig Fariss and wife Mary Ellen and Tracey Fariss, all of the Burnet area.

He was preceded in death by his son Aubrey Clayton Fariss and father Aubrey Alton Fariss.

Pallbearers are Bill Howell, Jeff Foreman, Matt Counts, Rolando Rodriguez, Sam Greenlees and Ted Huffman.

A visitation is 6-8 p.m. June 4 at Clements-Wilcox Funeral Home, 306 Texas 29 East in Burnet, (512) 756-2222.
