BLANCO — Call it fortune or luck, but the coin turned up in favor of the Marble Falls High School softball team April 28.

After Lady Mustangs head coach Tino Salazar ended Austin LBJ’s season a night earlier to capture his second consecutive bi-district championship, he traveled to Blanco to discuss the area round format with Smithson Valley head coach Wayne Daigle.

Salazar won one flip and decided on a one-game, winner-take-all contest and a second as the home team.

“To beat coach Daigle twice is a tall order,” Salazar said.

That means the Lady Mustangs (19-8) will face the Lady Rangers (23-6) 7 p.m. May 3 at Texas State University in San Marcos.

“It’s tough to find a neutral site,” Salazar said. “They didn’t want to play at Dripping Springs because they hadn’t played there. None of the fields we felt like were going to be available.”
