MARBLE FALLS — It took an inning, but once the Marble Falls High School softball team made adjustments at the plate and stopped making base-running mistakes, the Lady Mustangs rolled to a 15-1 win against Austin LBJ April 27.

The game ended after the fifth inning.

Junior pitcher Alicia Macias (11-4) threw a no-hitter, struck out six, walked one and hit Sophia Hardin with pitch. Hardin later scored on a wild pitch in the first inning.

Marble Falls (19-9) will now face Smithson Valley in the second round of the playoffs with format, dates, times and site to be determined.

LBJ pitcher Hardin faced 10 batters in each of the second and third innings when the Lady Mustangs scored 12 runs off 13 hits.

Every Marble Falls batter either scored a run or recorded an RBI, led by sophomore Amanda Thomas’ 4 RBIs and sophomore Tyler Oppenheim’s three runs scored.

Head coach Tino Salazar noted LBJ didn’t commit an error and made every routine play.

He was pleased with the run production and purposely avoided calling for bunts, wanting his players to drive the ball into gaps.

Junior Abby Henry said the Lady Mustangs realized they needed to change their approach after they reflected on their season.

“We worked hard all year to get to this place,” she said. “And we didn’t want to blow it. It showed a lot about our team and about the bond we have on and off the field.”
