Lady Dawgs take third place in district softball
BURNET — The Burnet High School softball team clinched third place in District 25-3A April 17 by defeating Llano 7-3 and Taylor beating Salado.
The Lady Dawgs (17-9, 5-4), who clinched a playoff spot for the third consecutive year, scored three runs in the first inning off hits from Shelby Wilson, Kati Maldonado and Rose Bailey. Allison Eaton, Wilson and Hillary Foster each recorded a hit in the second to plate another run, 4-0.
Kristen Spinn and Bailey each recorded three RBIs.
Meanwhile senior pitcher Spinn gave up three earned runs off nine hits with six strikeouts and three walks.
With the victory, the Lady Dawgs have won two in a row. Burnet defeated Taylor 5-3 April 13 after falling to Salado 3-1 April 10.
Burnet finishes the regular season 7 p.m. April 20 against Liberty Hill (20-7, 8-1) at Bulldog Diamonds, 1000 The Green Mile.
