Voris Cleo Riley
Voris Cleo Riley, 102, died April 2, 2012, after a brief illness. He was born in Schleicher County on May 13, 1910, to Claude Archibald and Effie Agnes Spears Riley.
He was a member of the Civilian Conservation Corp during the Great Depression and a veteran of World War II, serving in the Navy aboard the USS Lake Champlain.
After the war, he settled in Odessa, where he married Rosa Lee Stone and ran a successful construction and remodeling business for many years.
He was a charter member of Masonic Lodge No. 1385, past master of the Crane Masonic Lodge, 32nd degree Scottish Rite and an active member of the Odessa Shrine Club for many years.
He lived in Kingsland from 2001 until he moved to Houston with his daughter in 2009.
While living in Kingsland, he served as chaplain for the American Legion.
Survivors include daughters Cleo Diane Wareham of Houston and Claudia Gayle Riley of Dallas, Ore.; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife and son Voris Lee Riley.
A memorial service is 2 p.m. April 7 at the Kingsland Lodge No. 1424 in Kingsland.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Scottish Rite Children’s Hospitals or the Shrine Children’s Hospitals.
