MARBLE FALLS — Kevin McLean has been told to hang up his coach’s whistle at Marble Falls Middle School, he said.

McLean, who confirmed he is no longer an eighth-grade boys coach, was told of the decision March 7 by Todd Dodge, the new Marble Falls Independent School District athletic director and Marble Falls High School head football coach.

Dodge, who was hired last month after being the quarterbacks coach for the University of Pittsburgh, has been evaluating the district’s coaching staff since his first day March 1.

“His statement was he wants to go in a different direction,” McLean said.

The 12-year employee will remain the In-School Suspension teacher, he added.

He is the son of former School Board President Martin McLean.

Kevin McLean was the boys middle school coordinator the past 10 years, guiding the eighth-graders to seven district football titles, four district track championships and three district basketball titles.

His overall football record is 72-18.

McLean said he was unsure of his next move.

“I will play it by ear and possibly pursue employment — probably at a varsity level,” he said. “If I can, I need to get back in that direction.”
