AUSTIN — Though the Marble Falls High School girls soccer team lost 8-1 to Leander Vandegrift Feb. 28, the Lady Mustangs can take comfort in one fact.

Marble Falls (2-11-3, 0-5) scored only the second goal on the Lady Vipers (6-0) in District 51-4A play.

It came from junior Selena Roman, who went to forward from goalie, and scored from 35 yards out to cut the deficit to 3-1.

Roman’s goal seemed to invigorate Vandegrift, which scored the final five goals in the last 20 minutes of the contest.

Part of the challenge for Marble Falls is that head coach Paulette Moczygemba has two reserves. That’s why she moved Roman out of the net, she said.

“Endurance isn’t what it needs to be,” she said. “I substituted a couple of people just to give the girls a rest. Vandegrift capitalized on that.”

Marble Falls hosts Cedar Park High 7:30 p.m. March 1 at Mustang Stadium, 2101 Mustang Drive.
