Herbert Floyd McDougall
Herbert Floyd McDougall, 89, died Nov. 30, 2011. He was born Aug. 30, 1922, in the Crabapple Community in Gillespie County to Alfred and Sophie (Rabke) McDougall.
He grew up speaking German at home and working on the family farm. Sundays were times for worship and fellowship at the Methodist and Lutheran churches.
He served during World War II under Gen. Alexander Patch in the 7th Army, 3rd Division, 15th regiment, 3rd Battalion, G Company as 1st Platoon staff sergeant.
On Sept. 11, 1946, he married Anita Mae Dziewas. They celebrated their 65th anniversary in the fall. He worked at Kelly Field Air Force Base as a mechanic in the motor pool and then as supervisor of the welding shop. After he retired in 1977, he and and his wife moved to Kingsland and were very active in the community.
He was a 32nd degree Scottish Rite Mason and a Master Mason of the Grand Lodge of Texas No. 1424. He also was a member of the American Legion, the Disabled American Veterans, the Lions Club and was on the board of directors for the Kingsland Community Center.
He and his wife were active in local square-dancing clubs, including Country Cuzzins, Roadrunners and Camping Squares. He enjoyed traveling by recreational vehicle with friends and playing golf.
He lived a life of faith through worship — in his later years at Kingsland Community Church — by reading the Bible, praying and helping others. His deep roots in faith were evident even in the last months of his life as he still was able to pray and play “Amazing Grace” on his harmonica.
In addition to his wife, survivors include son Michael Herbert McDougall and wife Nancy; daughter Kay Eileen Scribner and husband Ron; grandchildren Jonathan, Jeffrey, Kenneth, Alyse, Matthew and Bethany; and great-grandchildren Clare, Katherine, William, David, John, Faith, Andrew, Marie, GraceAnn and Megan.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers Reuben, Alva C., Chester, Monroe, Eska F. and Stanford McDougall; and sister Lilly Pearl Frantzen.
