Florene Bird Duncan, 67, of Bertram died Nov. 22, 2011, surrounded by family after a battle against pancreatic cancer. She was born in Burnet County on Sept. 5, 1944, to Claude and Flora Bird.

She was not only the heart and soul of her family, but also of the many friends whom she cared for like family. No one ever doubted she was always available to love, support and provide whatever help was needed.

She loved antiques — even those many would consider junk. But even more than the treasures themselves, she loved the people whom she met along the way. She was the keeper of her family’s history and often the history of others. In her search for antiques, she often “adopted” the family history of strangers because she felt family mementos should be cherished and not discarded.

Survivors include her children Leslye Pogue and husband James of Liberty Hill, Shelley Reavis and husband John of Bertram and Tim and wife Lea of San Antonio; grandchildren Holly Raiford and husband Lealand, Michael and Chelsye Allphin, Leslie Reavis and Adam and Mattie Duncan; great-grandchildren Kenzye and Bowen Raiford; sister Claudene Braun and husband Charlie of Bertram; brothers Eugene Bird and wife Barbara of Burnet and Duryl Bird and wife Judy of San Antonio; sister-in-law Sharlyn Bird of Lake Jackson; mother-in-law Marie Allen; numerous nieces and nephews; and countless friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 36 years, Frank; her parents; brother Charles Bird; and sister-in-law Betty Bird.

A visitation is 5-7 p.m. Nov. 25 at Edgar Funeral Home, 109 N. Main St. in Burnet. A service is 10 a.m. Nov. 26 at the Church of Christ, located on the corner of W and Elm in Bertram.

The family thanks the doctors, nurses and staff of Cedar Park Regional Medical Center.

Memorial contributions may be made to Joann Cole Mitte Memorial Library in Bertram or a hospice organization of choice.
