MARBLE FALLS — Two emotions were evident on the faces of the Marble Falls High School football players Sept. 30 — happiness and fatigue — after their 21-6 win against Leander Rouse.

Happiness because the Mustangs (4-2, 1-1) are back in the District 25-4A playoff chase.

Fatigue because Marble Falls is using many of the same players on offense and defense.

Injuries have plagued the Mustangs for several weeks with at least two players — senior Hunter Jones and sophomore Carson Bowen — lost for the season.

A shoulder injury to senior quarterback Zed Woerner forced his father, head coach Cord Woerner, to use three other players — juniors Jay Wason and James Fry and senior Taylor Cauble — in the position.

Now Cauble is hobbled and wearing a knee brace, but he hopes to return for the Oct. 14 road game at Cedar Park High.

Still, a victory, especially going into a bye week, can do a lot to make players feel better.
