MARBLE FALLS — The situation is the same, the circumstances are different.

First, the situation. After falling 6-0 to Cedar Park Vista Ridge on Sept. 23, the Marble Falls High School football team (3-2, 0-1) is in the same spot it was in 2010 — facing Leander Rouse in what head coach Cord Woerner stopped just short of calling a must-win contest.

“In order for us to stay solid in the hunt, it’s a huge game for us,” he said. “Our kids are at home, they’ve been successful this year, they don’t like losing, they are gonna be ready to protect their own house. It’s homecoming. It’s a critical game in district.”

Only this time, the venue is different. The game will be played at Mustang Stadium, 2101 Mustang Drive on the Marble Falls High School campus, at 7:30 p.m. Sept. 30.

In 2010, the Mustangs suffered through a tough 21-20 setback to the Vista Ridge Rangers for their third straight loss. But they snapped that streak with a convincing 49-21 win against the Leander Rouse Raiders, marking the first of three road victories in District 25-4A play that propelled Marble Falls to the playoffs last season.
