Bulldogs, District 25-3A enjoy bye week
BURNET — As unusual as it sounds, Burnet High School head football coach Doyle Walker plans to be home Friday night.
There won’t be a football game to play or scout because all of District 25-3A is taking a bye Sept. 30. Doyle and his coaching staff have already completed scouting reports for Lampasas (4-1), the Bulldogs’ division opponent Oct. 7, so they can watch as much college and professional football as they want to over the weekend. Walker is even giving his players and coaches the afternoon of Sept. 30 off.
“We won’t work out after school,” he said.
But don’t think the Bulldogs (3-2) haven’t put in the work during the week. While it has been a light week with the players spending an hour each day on both sides of the ball before going home, Walker has made sure there’s a balance between overdoing it and not doing enough.
He said the bye couldn’t have come at a better time. The Bulldogs escaped with a 23-20 win against Gatesville on Sept. 23 against a Hornets team that was one of the most physical Burnet has faced during the season.
