BRYAN — The Marble Falls Faith Academy Flames found a spark late in the set up Friday by a trick play to take the lead, only to have Bryan Allen Academy snuff it out seconds later with a 77-yard kickoff return.

Allen Academy went on to win the game 60-34, dropping the Flames to 2-2 on the season.

Things started off bright for the Flames when Jason Byrd rambled 43 yards on a fourth-down play for the first score of the game. Brian Freeman added the two-point conversion to give Faith an 8-0 lead. The entire series took four plays to cover 55 yards.

The Flames offense appeared to have established itself right out of the gate.

Faith was able to get the ball back, but couldn’t get things rolling and eventually turned it over on downs. Allen Academy responded by going 25 yards in six plays for the tying score with 1:42 left in the first.

The Faith offense sputtered a bit early in the second half, again turning the ball over on downs. But the Flames defense stepped up and forced Academy to do the same thing on the ensuing drive.
