Burnet faces determined Bandera team

BURNET — A week after falling to the Marble Falls Mustangs, the Burnet High School football team can’t get to Bandera fast enough.

The Burnet Bulldogs (1-2) have been preparing for a Bandera Bulldogs (1-2) team that ended a 13-game losing streak last week by defeating Llano 35-33 on the same night Burnet suffered its second loss of the season.

But don’t think Burnet has been feeling sorry for itself since their latest setback. Instead, they have committed themselves to improving and turning around their season.

“They’ve been upbeat,” head coach Doyle Walker said. “And they know that we’re still learning, and these kids know that. Our goal is to get better every week. I felt like we got better from the week before against Fredericksburg, and we played a lot better offensively. Defensively, at times, we did. And that’s what I told the kids.”

Good thing, because Burnet faces a Bandera squad that utilizes the same spread offense it does with a power running back and an offensive line committed to dominating the trenches.

Bandera quarterback Kyle Monroe has completed 29 passes for 418 yards, five touchdowns and four interceptions.
