MARBLE FALLS — It took the Faith Academy Flames only two plays and less than 30 seconds to score their first touchdown against Kingwood Northeast Christian Academy Friday at Marble Falls’ Pony Stadium.

Senior Peter Perkins started out with a 21-yard run capped off by Brian Freeman’s 16-yard touchdown scramble to take a quick 7-0 lead over the visiting Warriors.

The fast attack was a sign of things to come in the Flames’ 56-6 victory over Northeast Christian, which was played at the Marble Falls Middle School facility.

Head Coach Russell Roberts said the Flames understood going into the game they probably wouldn’t face much of a challenge from Kingwood, who only fielded eight players.

“We expected this so we told the boys this is Texas high school football and you owe it to the game to play as hard as you could,” Roberts said.

After his first-team offense, supported by some key defense and special-team plays, amassed a solid 27-point lead in the first quarter, Roberts began substituting freely.

It was the play of his first offense that showed Roberts the Flames understood the importance of putting their best effort on the field.
