Despite season-opening win, Mustangs know they can play better
MARBLE FALLS — The Marble Falls High School football team’s demeanor said it best.
After the 30-16 win against San Marcos in its season opener Aug. 26, the Mustangs (1-0) shook the Rattlers’ hands but didn’t show the excitement, joy or enthusiasm a victory usually brings.
The Mustangs were happy to earn the win, but they know they can perform so much better.
And that’s what head coach Cord Woerner will be looking for.
“Regardless of how much you practice, there are certain things on special teams, offense and defense in the first game when the lights are on that aren’t always as smooth as you’d like,” he said. “We had some penalty issues — dumb penalty issues — that hopefully we’ll correct.”
But don’t think Medina Valley (1-0), the Sept. 2 opponent, will make it easy for Marble Falls, especially after the Mustangs crushed them 41-21 in 2010.
