Lady Mustangs struggle in loss to Cedar Ridge
ROUND ROCK — The Marble Falls High School volleyball team (4-4) suffered a straight set loss Aug. 16 to Cedar Ridge, 22-25, 25-27, 15-25.
Head coach Julie Downs said her squad struggled.
“The Lady Mustang teams were plagued with poor serve-receive, weak setting and virtually no offense,” she said.
Junior outside hitters Hayley Fishbeck and Kiara Etheridge each recorded five kills, while junior setter Emily Chittum had eight assists, and sophomore setter Haley Coulter added three. Junior Catie Whitecotton had two blocks, and junior Stephanie Garcia had 19 digs.
“The Lady Mustangs came home empty-handed to go back to work on the passing games and offense for the continuation of their season,” Downs said.
The Marble Falls freshmen lost 18-25, 23-25, while the junior varsity also fell 19-25, 7-25.
Their Burnet County counterparts also struggled Aug. 16.
The Burnet High School volleyball (5-4) team lost to Copperas Cove 19-25, 22-25, 18-25.
Senior hitters Kristen Spinn and Haylea Smith each recorded five kills, while senior setter Ali Eaton had 23 assists. Senior Kati Maldonado had 16 digs, while Spinn added 13.
The next home match for Marble Falls is Aug. 19 against Cedar Creek with the junior varsity and freshmen playing at 4 p.m. The Lady Mustangs will face Liberty Hill immediately after at 6:30 p.m. All matches will be at Marble Falls High School, 2101 Mustang Drive.
The varsity will play Cedar Creek at 5:30 p.m. in Max Copeland Gym, 2101 Mustang Drive.
