Llano volleyball loses to Boerne
LLANO — After winning the opening set 25-19 on Aug. 16, the Llano High School volleyball team looked poised to sweep Boerne High.
Instead, the Lady Jackets (1-10) lost to the Lady Hounds 25-19, 16-25, 17-25, 26-24, 13-15.
What bothered head coach Shawn Sweeten-Meredith so much was her team had a 13-9 lead in the final game but failed to score another point after Boerne called a timeout.
“There’s obviously some breakdowns going on there,” she said. “I thought that at times, we looked out of this world. Then we have such a breakdown. We don’t look as experienced as we are. We did not serve-receive well after that timeout.”
Llano also suffered through a 13-0 run in the third set that allowed Boerne to seize control of the match.
The Lady Jackets had a 24-23 lead in the fourth set, but an unforced error extended the game. Senior hitter Cierra Jordan ended the set by hitting the ball of the block.
Before that, Llano enjoyed a five-point advantage. The Lady Hounds closed the gap, but the Lady Jackets called on Jordan and senior hitters Victoria Calzoncit and Jessica Wunderlich to lead them to victory.
Sweeten-Meredith has designed a pre-district schedule that challenges her players mentally and physically and is filled with Class 4A and 5A teams.
This loss to Boerne doesn’t illustrate the progress her team made at the Round Rock Westwood Showcase Tournament last week, she said.
“Not to transfer what we did on the court is very frustrating.”
