MFalls fans invited to Meet the Mustangs
MARBLE FALLS — The Marble Falls Athletic Booster Club will hold Meet the Mustangs on Monday.
The event is 7 p.m. at the Mustang Stadium, 2101 Mustang Drive.
Head football coach and athletic director Cord Woerner said he hopes the event draws a large number of fans.
“It does very little for us to introduce kids to an empty stadium,” he said. “We do this for the public to be involved, for them to see and know who the kids are who are up here working in this heat, and to let our kids know people do care and appreciate them.”
Fans will see members of freshman, junior varsity and varsity football and volleyball, cross country, tennis and golf athletes, coaches, student trainers, band members, Starlettes and cheerleaders, Woerner said.
“I started counting the sports working out right now,” he said. “It is close to 500 kids, coaches and trainers involved in getting ready for seasons right now.”
Gates on the home and visitors’ side will be open, but fans are encouraged to sit on the home side for several reasons.
First, it will be cooler because of the shade from the press box and the sun setting behind the home stand.
The other reason is because athletes and coaches will be introduced to the home side.
“We understand it’s warm,” Woerner said. “We try to do it later in the evening. It’s beneficial for all participants to get up and come.”
The event is free to attend and is scheduled earlier than in 2010.
Woerner said the booster club and the athletic department wanted to pick a date before classes start Aug. 22.
In addition to the high school students, the athletic director said youth football players will attend.
While Woerner understands the big draw in the fall is football, he wants other sports and organizations to get recognition. That’s why Meet the Mustangs encompasses all of them.
“They put just as much time and effort,” he said. “Those things are as important as what we’re doing. I like to include them.”
Meet the Bulldogs is 6 p.m. Aug. 18 at Burnet’s Bulldog Field, 1000 The Green Mile.
