AUSTIN — The Lower Colorado River Authority will be led by the first female general manager in its 76-year history.

The LCRA board voted unanimously in a special meeting June 14 to hire Rebecca S. Motal as general manager, replacing Tom Mason, who the previous week announced he will resign July 1.

Motal’s first job at the nonprofit public utility was as an accounting clerk in 1972.

“My career has been one of public service, and I am honored to be asked to lead such an incredibly dedicated staff of public servants who work every day to improve the quality of life of the people of Texas,” said Motal, who is being promoted from her position of executive manager of External Affairs.
