AUSTIN — Former Marble Falls High School girls soccer player Alexis Russell helped her club soccer team, the Lonestars 93G Red North, finish fourth at a recent state tournament.

Russell scored her team’s only goal from 30 yards out in the 2-1 loss to the Eclipse soccer club out of Houston, according to coach Rob Ferguson.

“We went for the win,” he said. “We knew a tie wasn’t going to be enough.”

The Albanian Hurricanes of Houston took a 2-0 lead before Lonestar came back for a 2-2 tie in the tournament opener.

“It was very unfortunate to not win it,” Ferguson said.

The team ended the tournament with a 3-2 loss to another Lonestar team.

Russell has played well for the squad, the coach said, adding she will perform well at Southwest Oklahoma State, where she will play college soccer.

“Alexis has been a huge part of the team,” he said. “Technically, she’s very, very good. She’s hard-working, she’ll do things on breakaways for you, she’s very upbeat. We love having her. She’s a wonderful kid.”

Ferguson said what made the state tournament outcome special is the history of the squad.

“The team came together 12 months ago,” he said. “We pulled players from four or five different teams together. This team didn’t exist 12 months ago.”
