Coaches pick several Mustangs for all-district team
MARBLE FALLS — Five Marble Falls High School baseball players were named to all-District 25-4A teams by the head coaches of the division.
Sophomore third baseman Stacy Heinatz and freshman center fielder Carson Bowen were named to the second team while senior pitcher Brian Hicks, senior first baseman Will Shirey and sophomore second baseman Cole Ridgely were honorable mention.
Head coach David Norwood noted the Mustangs started several underclassmen during the district campaign.
“When you finish 2-10 … you can’t expect a lot of postseason awards,” he said. “A lot times it goes to upperclassmen. District honors go to upperclassmen.”
The finishes of the 2011 season proved what Norwood thought when the University Interscholastic League announced realignment in February 2010.
“Baseball would be the toughest,” he said.
That’s because so many of the district teams have athletes who play the sport year around.
“All those kids drive a short distance to play quality baseball in the fall,” Norwood said.
