Charles “Chuck” L. Buster

Retired Sgt. Major Charles “Chuck” L. Buster, 74, of Tow died May 17, 2011. He was born in Tulare, Calif., on Aug. 12, 1936, to William H. and Velma (Woolever) Buster.
He lost his life after a battle against chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, caused by more than 50 years of smoking.
He joined the Army in August 1952 and served more than 22 years. He met Ruth Elaine Peterson in July 1952 and on May 8, 1954, they married in Conference Point, Nev., (over Sam’s Meat Market.) Together, they shared a love- and adventure-filled life traveling the world with the military.
Their lives were blessed with the birth of four daughters. After years of travel, the couple retired to the “Toe” of Texas. He filled his life by enjoying his family, being a good neighbor and helping out wherever he saw a need. He was a board member of the BLV Homeowners Association.
Although never a member, he assisted the Tow Volunteer Fire Department in any way he could.
In addition to his wife of 57 years, survivors include daughters Cheryl Buster and husband Scott of Lufkin, Kathleen Campbell and husband Charlie of Granbury, Robin Clark and life partner Dean Zachary and Tina L. Buster of Calabasas, Calif.; grandchildren Elizabeth, Ryan, Wesley, Shannon, Amanda, Debbie, Noah, Becky, Cassandra, Jacquelyn and Rachael; great-grandchildren Nicholas, Caleb, Mason, Alexis, Cella, Conner, Charlie, Jade, Gabriella and Madison; and many friends in the community.
He was preceded in death by his parents; older brother Robert William Buster and by his most beloved dog and best buddy Poketo.
A service is 2 p.m. June 12 at the Tow Community Center on RR 2241 in Tow.
