Jackets unable to extend series

MARBLE FALLS — Needing a win to force the series to a third game, the Llano High School baseball team put its fortune on the arm of senior hurler Dallas Redden.

Sensing an opportunity to close out the series in two games, Fredericksburg turned to standout junior pitcher Ryan Flores to protect a two-run lead in the sixth.

In the end, Flores and an RBI single from senior pitcher Tyler Heimann in the sixth inning was enough for a 4-1 victory May 7.

Heimann earned the win, giving up only one run in the third inning.

“Tyler has pitched well all year,” head coach Todd Doucet said. “He flies under the radar because Flores does a great job.”

The coach noted Heimann only gave up four hits in his outing. Meanwhile, Flores, who threw a one-hitter in the 1-0 Game 1 victory May 5, told Doucet before leaving the Fredericksburg campus that he felt rested and would be available to pitch if needed.

“Our game plan wasn’t to bring him into Game 2,” he said. “We knew if we had a lead late in Game 2, we were not going to wait until Game 3.”
