Jimmie Daniel ‘Dan’ Kasparek Jr
Jimmie Daniel “Dan” Kasparek Jr., 65, died of cardiac arrest March 25, 2011. He was born in Charleston, S.C., on April 23, 1945, to Jimmie and Mary Kasparek.
He was a 1963 graduate of Austin High School and a 1971 graduate of Southwest Texas State University, where he was a member of Delta Phi Theta fraternity. He lived in Austin for 30 years, but had lived on Lake LBJ since 1979.
He worked for the U.S. Postal Service for 30 years, retiring from the Kingsland Post Office in 2002. He served as state treasurer of the Texas Postal Workers Union for eight years and was on the board of directors of the Hoover Valley Fire Department.
He was a charter member of the Marble Falls Relay for Life after his first wife’s 8-year battle with breast cancer. He was an active volunteer for Meals-on-Wheels and the G.E.D. graduation program since retirement. He also was the past president and an active member of the Burnet Rotary Club. He and his wife Kathy were members of Trinity Episcopal Church in Marble Falls.
He loved fishing, boating, gardening, traveling, volunteering and spending time with his family and friends.
Survivors include his wife of 11 years Kathy Kasparek; daughter Kathleen and husband Jamison Wyatt of San Antonio; parents Jimmie and Mary Kasparek of Austin; sisters Kathy Hancock of Port Aransas and Peggy and husband Eric Luplow of Truchas, N.M.; stepchildren Wyly Wade of New Delhi, India, and Wendi Wade of Seattle; and grandchildren Colton Wyatt and Kyra Wade. He also is survived by numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and many extended family members and friends.
He was preceded in death by his first wife of 25 years Cecilia Kasparek and brother-in-law Paul Hancock.
A service was March 28 at Marble Falls Baptist Church.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, Trinity Episcopal Church or the Burnet Library.
