James John Mahoney, 81, died March 12, 2011. He was born in Loraine on July 18, 1929, but he called Clyde his home.

He married Rilla Francis Terry on April 14, 1951, in Clyde. He served in the Army, was stationed in Germany and was honorably discharged in October 1956.

After returning from Germany, he attended Hardin Simmons University and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in business administration. He was ordained a Southern Baptist minister on Oct. 13, 1964.

He graduated from the Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary on May 20, 1966, earning a master’s of religious education.

He served as pastor at Valley Grove Baptist Church in Stephenville and Elmdale Baptist Church in Elmdale, where he later retired.

Survivors include his wife of 60 years; children David and Cindy Mahoney of Hutto, Cathy and Jim Smith of Fort Worth and Becky and Duane Fox of Horseshoe Bay; grandchildren Lindie Hart, Laurie Brown, Marissa Mahoney and Nicholas Mahoney; great-grandchildren Blake and Miles Brown, and Harrison and Catherine Hart; brother Bob Mahoney; and sister Glenda Patton.  The family thanks the staff of the Oaks Nursing Center of Burnet for their care and kindness.

A viewing is 5-7 p.m. March 15 at Bailey-Howard Funeral Home, 105 Oaks St. in Clyde.

A funeral service is 2 p.m. March 16 at the Elmdale Baptist Church, 233 Elmdale Road South in Elmdale.
