Jimmy Wayne Hartpence, 68, of Llano died Jan. 7, 2011, in his home. He was born Feb. 13, 1942, in Sayre, Okla., to Wayne and Lucille Hartpence.

He and his college sweetheart June Stamper were married for 47 years. He served in the Army Reserve.

He obtained his mortuary service degree from Gupton Jones, Dallas, and received a business administration degree from Southwestern State University at Weatherford, Okla.

He worked in the mortuary field for several years. Later, he went to work for Phillips Petroleum Co. He enjoyed 29 years with Phillips before retiring.

He volunteered with the Sayre Volunteer Fire Department and was instrumental in the restoration of the 1923 LeFrance “Huldy” fire truck, now on exhibition in Sayre. He took numerous trips on his BMW motorcycle with his closest friends.

He was a lifetime NRA member and committed to conservative values. On Friday mornings he and his buddies enjoyed coffee at their “breakfast club.”

In addition to his wife, survivors include brothers Kim Hartpence and Marty Hartpence; sisters-in-law Frances Summers and Peggy Schmidt; and a nephew and a niece.

A memorial service will be held April 23 in Sayre.

Memorial donations may be made to the Short Grass Museum building fund in Sayre or to the cancer organization or charity of choice.
