William Alonzo “Bill” Schaefer, 84, died Dec. 17, 2010, at his home in Marble Falls after a long illness.

He was born Feb. 17, 1926, in Coryell County to Fred H. Schaefer and Mary Cagle Schaefer.

He retired from the Texas Department of Human Services after a long career designing and implementing records management systems. Prior to his state employment, he worked in the private sector in the microfilm and records management industry.

Upon graduation from Moody High School in Moody,he enlisted in the Navy and served aboard the U.S.S. Lackawanna in the Pacific Ocean during World War II.

At war’s end, he returned to Central Texas where he studied business, developing the skills that served him during his professional career.  Before he retired, he developed an interest in traveling with his wife in their recreational vehicle.

He became active in several RV organizations and served as a state officer of the Good Sam RV Club.

Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Bonnie Bruner Schaefer of Marble Falls; daughter Phyllis Murray of Wallingford, Conn.; sons Ed Schaefer of Burnet and Bill Schaefer of San Antonio; 13 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

A funeral service is 2 p.m. Dec. 22 at the Cole Chapel in Moody. Burial will follow at Moody Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Highland Lakes Hospice in Burnet.
