Dennis Clayton Gage
Dennis Clayton Gage, 99, died Nov. 6, 2010, with his wife by his side in Brady.
He was born Jan. 27, 1911, in Bend to Jonas M. and Bertha Gage. He was the third of seven children.
His parents farmed in San Saba County for many years.
He married Mabel Ruth Busby May 15, 1934, in San Saba. He was a farmer, butane distributor and grocer.
While living in San Saba, the couple had two children.
The family moved to Llano in the early 1950s and lived there almost 60 years. He owned and operated System Grocery and Market (later Mini-Max) until his retirement in the 1970s.
He was a dedicated member of the Llano Chamber of Commerce, serving as director. He served on the hospital board, housing authority board and was active in the Masonic Lodge for 65 years, where he was honored as Worshipful Master. He also served as Worthy Patron of the Eastern Star.
He was a faithful member of the First Baptist Church of Llano. Volunteer positions included deacon, chairman and ultimately being recognized as the first deacon emeritus. He also was a member of the building committee, secretary of the Sunday School as well as a Sunday School teacher, and church greeter — a job he enjoyed until he was 96.
In addition to his wife survivors include daughter Mary Ann McCarver; grandson Scott David McCarver; granddaughter Christy McCallum; great-grandson Gage McCallum; brother J.M.; son-in-law David McCarver; daughter-in-law Diane Gage; and grandson-in-law Luke McCallum; and members of the Busby family.
He was predeceased by his parents; siblings, Opa, Ola, Doris, Ray and Floyd; and son Bobby.
A funeral service is 2 p.m. Nov. 9 at First Baptist Church in Llano. Interment follows at Llano City Cemetery.
